“Ermita del Remei” and Alcanar church

“Ermita de la Mare de Déu del Remei”, a very special chapel, is located 3 km away from Alfacs and only 7km away fron the main road, N-340. Its main square is a lovely spot from where stunning views of the sea and orange groves can be enjoyed — blue and green colours blend together, as a sort of carpet which stretches right beneath the chapel, an altar or throne that the inhabitants of Alcanar once built for their Patron as a sign of their devotion to Her.

There are not any records stating when the chapel was built, but it is thought to have been built at the end of the XVI century or beginning of the XVII — all chapels built for Virgin Mary with the title or devotion to “Remei”, very common in Mediterranean coastal areas and erected under the same principles and rationale, appear to have been constructed in the same period.
