5 must see landscapes in Montsià

Spectacular landscapes to discover between the mountains and the sea

Our campsite is located in the municipality of Alcanar, in the Montsià region. A small piece of land between the mountain range that shares the same name and the Mediterranean Sea, still relatively unknown but full of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.

We recommend 5 must-see landscapes that will surprise you with their natural beauty. They will give you an idea of the wonders surrounding our campsite. Let’s begin.

La Foradada of Montsià

In the Montsià mountain range, after hiking along the GR 92 trail from the Miralles farmhouse (Amposta), you reach La Foradada, a huge natural hole that acts as a viewpoint over the entire Montsià range. At 700 metres above sea level, it offers incredible panoramic views over the whole region all the way to the Ebro Delta. It is a circular walk of approximately two and a half hours through beautiful landscapes such as the interpretive area of Font del Brigar.

Alfacs Bay

In Alfacs Bay, located along Punta de la Banya, the fresh waters of the Ebro River mix with the salty waters of the sea. A spectacular landscape where you can observe colonies of ducks, flamingos, mussel farms and oyster beds.

You can swim at Punta de la Banya, discover the pier of the Trinidad salt flats, sail between mussel platforms or visit the Sant Joan tower.

It is also the largest natural harbour in Europe and an ideal place for water sports such as kayaking. Several companies offer equipment rental or guided excursions.

Sòl de Riu Beach

Sòl de Riu Beach marks the border with Valencia and is the last beach in Catalonia. This area has been awarded the status of “virgin beach” because this wonderful natural site in Les Cases d’Alcanar is protected for its environmental and landscape value.

It is a wetland area where the Sénia River flows into the sea, covered with lush vegetation where birds can easily be observed all year round. A completely unspoilt place that can easily be reached from the centre of Les Cases d’Alcanar.

The Retaule beech forest

Within the Els Ports Natural Park lies the Retaule beech forest, a beautiful woodland that becomes covered in spectacular red and brown leaves in autumn, making it one of the most beautiful landscapes in Montsià. It is a unique place, both for the colours of the forest and for the ravines and cliffs surrounding it.

Inside this magnificent beech forest, visitors can also admire two monumental trees: the Faig Pare (the Father Beech), easily recognisable by its unusual shape, and the Pi Gros (the Great Pine), a huge 700-year-old pine tree surrounded by much smaller pines.
